Customizing Open‑Source Software
For many companies, Open‑Source software is becoming more and more important. A central advantage is the independence from individual software companies and their proprietary software. Instead, Open‑Source allows creating sustainable solutions that reduce long-term costs.
As experts, we advise our customers on how to use Open‑Source software, develop new Open‑Source solutions or adapt existing software to specific requirements.
Scenarios
Sustainable Solutions
Development of sustainable software solutions for companies and the public sector
Custom Workflows
Customize workflow to meet unique business requirements, e.g., when managing customers (CRM, ERP)
Development of Prototypes
Combination of multiple different Open-Source software solutions to efficiently develop new prototypes
Website Plugins
Extending Content Management Systems (CMS) by developing plugins, e.g., for WordPress or Typo3
Integration with other Software
Developing custom import and export tools, software interfaces (API), or tools for data synchronization
Scope of Services
Consulting. We advise our customers on the advantages and disadvantages of Open-Source software in general, as well as specific Open‑Source solutions. We discuss and develop new ideas, concepts, and project plans.
Development. If there are no suitable existing solutions, we develop entirely new Open‑Source software. We deliberately build upon established and future-proof Open‑Source software libraries to ensure that our software can be efficiently maintained and operated for a long time.
Customizing. We adapt existing Open‑Source software based on the individual requirements of our customers. We efficiently familiarize ourselves with the software, contact the respective development team and coordinate any further steps. If necessary, we create a fork of the Open‑Source software and use it as a basis for our development work.
Installation and Operation. We install and operate Open‑Source solutions either on servers provided by our customers, servers hosted by various providers or in the cloud.
Projects
Development Support for the Open‑Source Software “Kitodo.Production”
Kitodo.Production is a web-based tool to support digitalization work in libraries, museums and digital archives, e.g., importing and managing scans of documents or books, compiling and exporting metadata. In this project, the software was improved regarding both performance and usability.
Technologies: Java, PrimeFaces, MySQL, ElasticSearch
REST Service for Document Classification in Digital Libraries
In this project, the Open‑Source software “slub_docsa” was developed. It allows the comparison of state-of-the-art machine learning methods (e.g., Artificial Neural Networks) for the purpose of automatically annotating documents with detailed class hierarchies often used by libraries (e.g., DDC). A REST service provides the trained models.
Technologies: Python, Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, Transformers
Open‑Source Plugins for Metadata Management of the Verfassungsblog
The Verfassungsblog is an academic Open‑Access journal discussing topics regarding constitutional law in Germany. In this project, WordPress plugins were developed to improve the management of article metadata and allow exporting information in multiple formats, e.g., as Marc21-XML.
Technologies: PHP, WordPress, MySQL, XML, XSLT
